The storm had knocked out the electricity for good this time, and the kerosene lamp from his trunk was out of oil. Using the lightning to judge where the furniture was, Roy walked across the room to the cabinet and removed a couple of candles. The matches weren't where he left them, of course, so he shrugged on a glove and lit one with a snap, carrying the holder back over to his desk.
He picked up pen again, but his list was complete. A marching column of general names and what Roy had remembered about their wartime activities stood in vivid black and red ink against crisp, white paper. There were a bare handful he thought had merely followed orders in Ishbal. But no one above him that he would trust to make a stand, even if he pressed.
It would have to be him, then. To the top, to burn the shadows away before he fell down to Earth.
Roy held the paper to the candle flame. With a wave, it went up in a flash, filling in shadows cast by lightning with a crimson and gold glow.
